No, don't smoke. Score one more for the cold turkey approach (and I was just thinking: how in the world did this expression "cold turkey" come about?)

Thanks for your comment Sherry! glad you quit!

Great advice.
Do you smoke? I quit cold turkey for 4 years now. I was a lot like Mark Twain though.

Thanks for the hints Colleen.

It's great that there are many other methods people use without taking meds (though meds are fine and necessary for some).
...these successful non-medication methods (like a fake cigarette) or occasions (like strep throat) I suspect happen only to those who already really want, or know they really need to quit, and then use some little trick or an event as a means to help it happen. Many times in my practice I told people who were sick with say a sinus infection: "you have to stop smoking now to get over your infection, so use this bad time as an opportunity...it's the perfect time to quit... your body is telling you something."

Would love to hear from any others on ways they, or someone they know, quit!

I got strep throat, couldn't smoke and used it as an opportunity to quit. My dad used a fake plastic cigarette to help him quit. He hung on to that thing for years.
