Greg, you are right about gay men being much more looks-aware; gay men also in general seem to be early adopters and trend setters for fashion and style and even fitness. Remember when for a man to be seen with even one earring was considered an abomination by straight men....now, it's probably many more straight men than gays with earrings (2 of course is fine now!)

And from living in Brazil, I know that women there are MUCH more looks conscious than the typical American woman. They really take care of themselves physically! Plastic surgery in Brazil is almost on the plane of teeth whitening in the U.S.

Thanks Greg for your comments, and I will do a humidifier post soon. Where I am now with the dry air and the snow outside, the environment inside is certainly much better with a humidifier! (something right now in Brazil, during summer, they don't have to worry about...lucky people!)

RE: Men vs Women aging better. My observation has been hands-down woman make more and effort. UNLESS the men are gay or in the public eye (entertainers, news casters, etc).

I also have noticed geography has a bearing - L.A., South Beach, South America seems to have people that are much, MUCH more conscious of their looks. Obviously not a scientific study and more than a little swayed by my subjectivity and projections...

Keep up the good work & encouragement!
- Greg

PS would love to see a post on humidifiers and recommendations on 'em - tis the season.

Hi,
I'm curious what people think regarding BASE showing that when they took equal age men and women, that the men felt they looked about 4 years younger than the women. This doesn't seem to fit with what I observe, and I wonder what others think...

I have noticed, for example, when I observe mid-age and older couples (of a man and a woman), that the man usually looks older; often he hasn't done anything to hide gray hair, and hasn't taken care of his skin as well. Do you agree? Is this issue of appearing younger when you are older important or worthwhile?
